What is spiritual warfare?
Spiritual warfare is the unseen forces of evil we face every day. We live in a world where not everything we see in front of us is the reality, and that is why our faith is the ultimate guidance to protect us from the forces of evil. It is beyond our ability to fight it with what we have in the physical world, and God never intends us to fight against it.
In Ephesians 6:10–18, “for our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” Paul has clearly warned us that what we are fighting against isn’t in the physical realm. Whether that is sickness, depression, or addiction, these are not of God, but rather a force that keeps humans stuck and isolated from God. Sin separates humans from God, but God’s grace is always ready for Him to accept us where we are if we repent and seek Him.
Paul ended with, “And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.” Paul not only talks about the spiritual warfare we face, but reminds us to bear in mind that we must pray for one another so that we do not walk alone.
